The Arc of Practice: 100 Days of Care

The 100 Days of Care unfolds as a progressive path — beginning with resolve, deepening into gentleness and integrity, and culminating in wisdom. Each 10-day cycle develops one of the ten far-reaching attitudes (pāramī), giving participants time to embody the quality in daily life.

Days 1–10 | Determination

The journey begins with resolve: landing in the practice, finding rhythm, and building a mantra of care. This period establishes momentum and steadiness, strengthening the commitment to walk through all 100 days.

Days 11–20 | Lovingkindness

With determination set, the heart turns toward friendliness. These days cultivate gentleness, kindness toward self and others, and the warmth of belonging that sustains the journey.

Days 21–30 | Truthfulness

Practice then shifts into honesty and alignment. This stage nurtures trust — both inwardly, through self-honesty, and outwardly, through integrity in relationship.

Days 31–40 | Ethical Self-Discipline

Restraint and integrity deepen. By creating peace through wholesome conduct, these days emphasize the quiet strength of living in harmony with values, and the freedom that comes with simplicity and self-discipline.

Days 41–50 | Energy

Midway through, energy is renewed. Buddhist effort is joyful — delighting in the wholesome, encouraging what is skillful, and firmly but gently setting aside what harms. This stage reinforces the vitality needed for long-term practice.

Days 51–60 | Generosity

With energy flowing, the practice turns toward giving. These days soften clinging, inviting the joy of letting go. By offering time, attention, and resources, participants discover generosity as freedom.

Days 61–70 | Letting Be

Now the practice ripens into contentment. This stage distinguishes wants from needs, releases striving, and learns the sufficiency of “enough.” Restfulness and trust in life become a refuge.

Days 71–80 | Patience

The deepest slump often appears here, but patience steadies the path. These days cultivate endurance with love, softening the struggle and meeting challenges with steadiness and compassion.

Days 81–90 | Open-Hearted Seeing

Clarity and balance arise through an undefended heart. This stage invites seeing things as they truly are, without contraction or judgment, and learning to meet life with openness and equanimity.

Days 91–100 | Wisdom

The final stretch turns to wisdom: insight into impermanence, interdependence, and selflessness. Reflections gather and integrate, culminating in a dedication of the practice for oneself, others, and the wider world.

Together, these ten stages form a full arc of transformation: beginning with resolve, softening through kindness, strengthening integrity, sustaining energy, releasing clinging, cultivating patience, and opening into clarity — creating conditions for the ripening of wisdom.
