Six far-reaching attitudes
Wednesday evenings this summer (July and August 2024), we’re exploring the six perfections (paramitas), which are sometimes called the six far-reaching attitudes: generosity, ethical self-discipline, patience, diligence, meditation and wisdom.
Cultivation of these qualities helps us overcome our limitations, our confusion, greed and aversion. Depending on our intention as we practice, the development of these attitudes can lead us to a deep, lasting inner peace.
Generosity – practicing giving without expectation of receiving anything in return.
Ethical self-discipline – refraining from harmful actions of body, speech and mind.
Patience – tolerance in the face of adversity and difficult situations.
Diligence – making an effort to cultivate positive qualities and overcome negative habits.
Concentration – developing the ability to focus the mind and maintain mental clarity.
Wisdom – gaining insight into the true nature of reality and cultivating a deep understanding of the teachings of the Buddha.
Yoga and meditation are gateways to living with greater ease.
